Under the supervision of a physician and within the Nurse Practitioner's competence, the Nurse Practitioner provides care to Cardiac Surgery patient population in the outpatient clinic.

• The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is responsible and accountable for the application of the nursing process, supervision of clinical practice, consultative services, inter and intradepartmental liaison, education, leadership and patient care management across.
• Incorporate both independent decision making abilities and collaboration with the physician to provide expert care to the patients.
• Responsible to assist with consultations, prepare patients for surgery by reviewing the chart, performing history and physical examination, ordering diagnostic tests, reviewing results, and reporting to the surgeon as needed, and manage all aspects of the patient care in the outpatient clinic, including addressing patient calls and collaborating with other intradisciplinary team members.
  Education:
  • Master of Nursing Degree required
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse practitioner program required
    
    License/Certifications:
    • Current State of California Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License required
    • National Certification by respective accredited professional nursing organization such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) required (or eligible to obtain)
    • Current NP Furnishing License required
    • DEA license required (or eligible to obtain)
    • ACLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
      
      Experience:
      • NP experience in acute hospital preferred
      • Prior experience in cardiac or cardiac surgery strongly preferred
