Job Summary: -A Rapid Response Nurse is a proficient and experienced clinician who serves as an important member of the patient care delivery team and is primarily responsible for managing emergent clinical deterioration of non-ICU patients. The Rapid Response Nurse is actively and independently detecting and managing patients in a state of clinical deterioration for the purpose of rapid prevention and treatment of further deterioration. These include but are not limited to sepsis, CVA, respiratory distress, and acute coronary syndrome. The Rapid Response Team is responsible for recognizing, assessing, coordinating, interpreting clinical surveillance data, re-evaluating the nursing care plan of patients and communicating that plan to the assigned team members as well as bedside clinical team. May provide consultative assessments to help facilitate higher level transfers into Cedars Sinai Medical Center for the Transfer Center.The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act (state law that protects patients by promoting safe, competent nursing practices), Title 22 (Health and Safety codes), The Joint Commission (develops performance standards and accredits programs for hospitals and other healthcare-related organizations) and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.Primary Duties and Responsibilities--- Performs Crisis Intervention as a first priority and acts as a lead resource when responding to Rapid Response, Code Blue, Code Stroke, and Code Yellow. ---- Responds to requests for assistance from the direct caregivers in assessing and stabilizing the patient's condition and organizing information to be communicated to the patient's primary physician team. Assists as needed with the transport of patients requiring transfer to a higher level of care. Documents nursing process components and relevant interventions for direct and indirect patient care services that ensure the safety, comfort, and protection of patients in a timely manner.--- Provides frequent proactive rounding and patient surveillance measures in patient care areas in order to reduce the prevalence of decompensating patients; identifying any acute changes in patient conditions and engaging in early intervention. ---- Provides care to patients in an intensive care setting, taking direct patient care assignments as scheduled by leadership to maintain competency and varied skillset in critical care practice.--- Demonstrates advanced assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources, such as Lippincott Procedure Manual, AACN guidelines, and the Sepsis Program surveillance data to assess a patient's signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine baseline versus abnormal characteristics. Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. ---- Provides specialized care to complex patient populations with varied comorbidities, utilizing conscientious consideration for patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Makes special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs. Identifies patient's readiness for learning, ability to follow directions/instructions, and give consent for any applicable intervention or treatment regimen in patient's plan of care.Teamwork/Customer Relation ResponsibilitiesCollaborates to problem solve and make decisions to achieve desired outcomesEstablishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s)Identifies and responds appropriately to both internal and external customer needs utilizing available resourcesCultivates and maintains strong customer relationships and rapport with stakeholders and/or client groupsShares knowledge, time and expertise to assist other members of the teamResponds timely, effectively and appropriately to deliverablesEnsures practices and procedures are inclusive of interpersonal and cultural diversity
Educational Requirements: -Assoc. Degree/College Diploma Nursing - MinimumBachelor's Degree Science in Nursing - state-accredited program - PreferredLicenses: -RN State License Upon Hire -Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Hire -Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS) Upon Hire -ANCC Specialty Certification Specialty Certification Upon Hire -Critical Care Registered Nurse Upon Hire -Cedars-Sinai Taking Charge Workshop 180 DaysExperience: -3 years Acute care nursing experience in Critical Care/ICU Setting X Minimum5 years Acute care nursing experience in Critical Care/ICU Setting X Preferred1 year Be a Clinical Nurse III at CSMC for at least one (1) year, internally X PreferredRegulatory - Ability to interpret and apply knowledge of State, Federal and Agency standards to comply with regulations Working knowledge of Nursing Practice Act, The Joint Commission and other state and local regulatory requirements. AdvancedCommunication - Ability to convey and/or receive written/verbal information to/from various audiences in different formats Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficient in the English language. AdvancedTechnical - Ability to operate mechanical/medical devices and/or equipment Knowledgeable and proficient in the use of health care technology within specialty area. AdvancedManagement - Ability to address performance issues and implement corrective action plans Demonstrates commitment to customer service and an ability to meet the needs and expectations of patients and health care colleagues.
