tertiary, teaching Level I trauma center hospital is located in the
heart of Los Angeles. The Pharmacy Department has over 450 staff
members who provide comprehensive inpatient pharmacy services as
well as outpatient services via two cancer centers, outpatient
pharmacies and ambulatory care clinics.The Pharmacy Manager in our
Specialty Pharmacy at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,
Ca is responsible for the policy and operational results of
designated area(s) of pharmacy services including the clinical,
operational, distribution and personnel activities of the units.
The Manager performs all job duties in accordance with pharmacy
policies, procedures, regulatory requirements, best practice
documents, and standard operating procedures while following
established quality and patient safety protocols. The Manager
supervises the development, implementation and ongoing monitoring
of process improvement effectiveness as well as strategic planning
for pharmacy service expansion and financial management. The
Manager collaborates with physicians, nursing and ancillary
department key stakeholders to ensure safe and effective pharmacy
services.
- Oversee staff of 28 FTE's in the Specialty Pharmacy and
maintaining compliance with the URAC accreditation (Utilization
Review Accreditation Commission).
- Responsible for supervision of staff and medication use
process, including accurate and timely distribution of medications
and safe and effective use of pharmacy automation and technology to
deliver medications and services to patients.
- Manages the effective allocation of human resources within
areas of responsibility which include the control of appropriate
staffing mix and levels, and management of efficiency based on
patient care needs.
- Responsible for hiring, training, corrective action, mentoring
and performance of pharmacy staff.
- Ensures staff compliance with medical center policies,
procedures and protocols and regulatory requirements.
- Assesses and resolves pharmacy operations issues/problems.
- Actively participates in departmental performance improvement
activities and continually assesses operational and clinical
effectiveness of pharmacy services through quality improvement
indicators.
- Participates in the development of the operating and capital
budgets; evaluates costs associated with new programs and
therapeutic advances. Develops, implements, monitors target drug
programs through collaboration with medical staff and pharmacy
staff. Monitors department specific financial indicators to achieve
budget targets including wage and non-wage expenditures.
- Serves as the Pharmacy Administrator-On-Duty (AOD) on a
rotating basis and serves as a liaison to patient care units and
Nurse Administrator of the Day (AOD).
- Responsible for training programs for pharmacists, pharmacy
technicians, residents, interns, students.
- Assures appropriateness of drug selection, dose, route,
duration, frequency and timing of medications by providing
recommendations to prescribers on appropriate dosage adjustments,
drug therapy alternatives or discontinuation of medications.
- Finds opportunities for financial improvement and takes action
to optimize financial performance.
- Finds opportunities and provides recommendations to improve
procedures, practices and workflows. Engages team members to
implement improvement efforts.
- Leads staff meetings to communicate information new policies,
practices and procedures. Follows up on staff questions and/or
concerns. Identifies items that would benefit from engaging
external stakeholders.
- Oversees Specialty Pharmacy operations which include the
clinical management of patients, financial management including
accounts receivable reconciliation and profit/loss dashboard,
regulatory management involving URAC (Utilization Review
Accreditation Commission) Accreditation, marketing of services,
program expansion, new business development, access to Limited
Distribution Drugs, payer access, and be the
Pharmacist-in-Charge.#Jobs
Educational Requirements:
- Graduate Degree - Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy
- Minimum
- Post Graduate Year PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency -
PreferredLicenses:
- California Pharmacist license
- (BLS) Basic Life Support certification - Upon Hire
- Board certification in pharmacotherapy or in specialty area is
preferred.Experience:
- Highly prefer with specialty pharmacy background.
